The park is one of the nicest I know and in my opinion is better than the central park of NY although much smaller. Even so, it is at least one hour long leisure walk and the atmosphere of pure relaxation and tranquility is wonderful. I believe that what does the job is the parallel rows of old chestnut trees, the wooden benches, statues here and there and the sound of trickling clear water flowing along the two shallow open drains lined with stone.
I was there several times during the past 50 years – and the nice thing about the place it remained the same and it gives me a sense of home coming.
What changed slightly, is the area at the end of the park around the lake where you can hire a boat for half an hour row during the summer and serves as a skating ring during the winter.
I and my wife were pleasantly surprised to see that the municipality is using the open summer canopy near the lake to perform civil marriages during Saturdays and Sundays. It is heart warming to see the many couples with their guests presenting themselves one after the other for the ceremony – it is a real colorful show – highly recommended.
